Hey babe! Welcome to Storming the Teacup, where we’re all about shaking things up in Pompey. Ever heard the phrase “storming the teacup”? It means making a big fuss over nothing. Well, we’re here to turn that idea on its head because our stories and heritage matter!

We’re all about uncovering and celebrating the hidden gems of Portsmouth’s history. By naming our project “Storming the Teacup,” we’re reclaiming our seaside heritage and showing everyone that our past is worth shouting about.

WHAT WE'RE UP TO

We want to showcase, collaborate, and build a culture that truly represents us. We’re making sure everyone knows we’ve always been a part of Portsmouth’s identity, and we’re doing it in fun, dynamic ways with loads of community participation.

OUR EXCITING PLANS

We’re teaming up with Portsmouth City Museum & Art Gallery to create a brand-new archive. This will spotlight the experiences and contributions of LGBTQ+ folks and other marginalized groups. It’s going to be an essential resource for everyone—researchers, educators, and the public—making sure all our stories are celebrated.

We’ll also be delivery an exhibition focused around our show Sticky Floors & Palm Trees as a culmination of all the work we’ve done in this.

JOIN THE FUN

“Storming the Teacup” isn’t just about preserving history; it’s about living it! We’re hosting events, workshops, and exhibitions to get the community involved and talking about diversity and inclusion. From storytelling sessions to public talks, there’s something for everyone to explore and celebrate.

If you’re interested in getting involved please contact us at downtownpompey@gmail.com

So, come on and join us. Let’s storm that teacup and show the world the rich, vibrant heritage of Pompey!
